Everyday life in Sydney

It’s not all about surfing and exploring Sydney, it’s also about studying and living the everyday life. I have four different subjects, some harder than others.

Armed with an iPad Pro 9.7 with Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil, I try to get the most out of class as possible. Back in Denmark, I was always using my Macbook Pro + paper and pencil for note taking, but this constellation annoyed me. The Macbook was good for writing text, but bad for fast annotation and sketching formulas etc. And the paper is annoying when you make a mistake. In the era of digitalisation, I also find it satisfying to have everything in the cloud and not use paper.

On the iPad Pro I use the Goodnotes app for annotating pdf’s and drawing sketches etc. Whenever I have to write a lot of text notes I just use Apple’s own note taking app. Here are some of the reasons why I love my iPad Pro with pencil + keyboard.

  • Low weight
  • Long battery life
  • Easy annotating with the Apple Pencil
  • Easy drawing with the Apple Pencil (pressure and tilt sensitive!)
  • Goodnotes syncs automatically with your preferred cloud service (All my notes can easily be seen from my Macbook or iPhone)
  • The possibility to design in 3d with the Apple Pencil

From my perspective, the only downside is the price! It’s quite expensive when you add it all together.

When having expensive hardware as a student, you have to cut costs elsewhere, therefore I’m on a constant hunt for free food. One week I was almost able to get one free meal everyday! Now I just go for a free breakfast every Wednesday at UTS Building 1 (see picture below). Besides the free food, there is also a lot of good places to go and get good and / or cheap food. On Tuesday nights we go to a place called the Soda Factory, to get 1 dollar hot dogs, despite the price, they’re pretty good! The burger below is from another place called the Upside Down Cafe, not cheap, but really really good!

To avoid gaining weight with all that delicious food, I workout with my flatmate Cédric at our buildings rooftop. We are following a 2 months workout program called Insanity. Hopefully we will be fit for the Australian summer!
